Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Manager for the Division of Blood Disorders at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

The Laboratory Manager participates in the design, planning, organization, management, and operations of a translational cancer/lymphoma laboratory as well as the teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, post-doctoral fellows and other laboratory staff/technicians.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Performs professional and scientific research in the areas of basic cancer biology related to hematological malignancies, especially with detailed knowledge of bio marker discovery and discovery and study of novel targeted drugs and immunotherapy in the treatment of lymphoma.
• Establishes standard protocols, practices, procedures, and techniques for effective and safe operation of the laboratory.
• Responsible for planning the use of laboratory space to best fit the translational lymphoma program.
• Effectively acts as the on-site laboratory facilities manager, directing overall function of the laboratory.
• Supervises trains, evaluates and develops the professional staff in the laboratory. Recommends the hiring, firing, promoting, demoting, performance evaluations, transfers and/or disciplining of employees, as well as other personnel actions according to University policies and procedures.
• Assists administrative staff in the interpretation of scientific aspects and specifications for provisions of purchasing, fiscal, personnel, and other administrative functions.
• Advises, assists, and represents the Director of the lymphoma program in matters of laboratory design and operation, working with both internal University staff and external contacts as necessary.
• Researches the practices, capabilities, and effectiveness of design elements in similar or related laboratories, evaluates same, and assumes proper interpretation by design professionals.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Ph. D. or Master’s Degree in a relevant science.
• Five (5) years or more of relevant work experience.
• Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Project management skills.
• Clear understanding of OSHA and other regulations.
• Proficiency with database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
