Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist II to coordinate the laboratory area to ensure efficient and smooth lab operations and to design and conduct highly specialized, technical research. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Assists in the establishments of performance standards as well as the selection of methodology and instrumentation.
• Assists in conducting a continuous program of research and development. Evaluates existing procedures and proposes modifications or changes in order to keep the procedures current.
• Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, lower-level professionals and technicians in laboratory technicians, instrumentation, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
• Assists with the preparation of proposals, formal applications and justifications for grant applications.
• Assists with the development of budget proposals for the laboratory area.
• Submits purchase recommendations of equipment and supplies. Schedules and tracks all maintenance on all laboratory equipment.
• Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations pertinent to research activity.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree in a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience, or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to work independently.
• Proficiency with database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise; business office with computers and printers, light traffic. Exposure to anti-neoplastic agents and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases that requires use of personal protective equipment.
