Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Support Coordinator for the Population Science department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Provides supervision for assigned activities and program; staffs, plans and coordinates the conduct of highly specialized and technical research in population studies.
• Performs initial survey to determine health and educational needs of the community served by Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) and RWJ Barnabas.
• Assists in the design and preparation of proposals for funding programs in each field.
• Reviews funding proposals to determine eligibility, completeness, and technical content; makes recommendations for funding based on the results of the proposal review.
• Assists in matching and coordinating programs with project sponsors at the local, state or federal level and/or in the private sector and with non-profit groups.
• As requested and required, works in cooperation with other State departments to isolate problem areas in the communities for implementing new programs.
• Manages and coordinates the community outreach activities, as well as community recruitment into research.
• Works collaboratively with Associate Director to assess catchment needs, develops community outreach research activity, and works closely with statewide stakeholders in the community to facilitate related activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or a health related field.
• Equivalent experience, education and/or
training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills required.
•Demonstrated ability to hold self-accountable to high standards of professional excellence, demonstrated to maximize resources and be resourceful, seek and accept personal and professional responsibility on a continued basis.
• Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and SPSS programming.
• Must have valid driver’s license, possess own vehicle or alternate means of transportation.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Public Health or a health related field preferred.
• Three (3) or more years of experience in public health or health related field, of which one (1) year of community outreach research experience and public health research experience conducting community-based research is preferred.
• Prior clinical experience an asset.
• Strong interest in health disparities preferred.
• Administrative experience working in a grant funded, academic medical setting strongly preferred.
• Fluent in Spanish or Hindi desired.

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.

Office environment. Moderate noise.
