Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Assistant (Surgical) within the Surgical Gynecologic Oncology department, at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position, are the following:

• Provides gynecologic health care services to patients under the direction of a Licensed Physician.
• Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examination and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
• Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory tests and interprets test results for
deviations from normal.
• Assists in the management of all surgical and medical admissions to the service, facilitating discharges and performing
• Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and managing infection.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assists in provisions of continuity of care.
• Assists in the management of patients admitted for the administration of chemotherapy.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners – Physician Advisory Committee.
• One (1) year of surgical experience, in major surgical procedures is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Robotic surgery is preferred.

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking, traveling, lifting up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:
Exposures to blood, anti-neoplastic drugs and infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
