Posting Summary

Rutgers School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Dental Assistant for the Statewide Network. The Dental Assistant is responsible for the daily routine operation of the University John H. Cronin Dental Center in Northfield, NJ part of the RSDM Extramural Clinics. May be asked to cover at any one of the Dental Centers in the Statewide Network for Community Oral health.

  • Prepares room for each patient, which includes setting up instruments and supplies.
  • Covers the Reception Area in the absence of the secretary.
  • Runs H20 through lines and hand pieces after every patient, as per ADA recommendations.
  • Seats patients, adjusts chairs and light, drapes patients with protective covers.
  • Takes and records vital signs on each patient at each appointment and updates medical history.
  • Passes instruments to doctor during examination period and treatment of patients.
  • Charts results of doctor’s examination.
  • Prepares dental materials for the dentists use.
  • Maintains patient’s records in accordance with Quality Assurance Guidelines.
  • Pours models, trims and evaluates the quality of diagnostic casts.
  • Gives post-operative instructions to patients and dismisses them.
  • Maintains sufficient supplies on hand to efficiently run each operatory and the whole clinic, if assigned this duty.
  • Cleans and changes Film Processor solution.
  • Cleans autoclave.
  • Stocks and cleans lab daily.
  • Checks O2 weekly and documents.
  • Takes x-rays, as requested by the doctor. Develops and mounts x-rays with proper identification and keeps accurate records of all x-rays taken.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) in the State of New Jersey.
  • Valid Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and CPR certified.
