Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Coordinator for the Geriatrics – COPSA Services at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.

Under supervision, will function as a member of the clinical and administrative leadership team for Geriatrics/COPSA Services. Primarily responsible for providing supervision to multi-disciplinary staff across COPSA program elements: dementia clinic, training services, Care to Caregivers. Provides and oversees outreach/case management and advocacy.

• Supervises staff on a daily basis, providing administrative direction and clinical updates.
• Provides staff with direction regarding consumer/patient intervention through individual supervision, group supervision, team meetings, and case conferences.
• Monitors staff performance and at minimum, on a bi-annual basis, meets individually with assigned staff to review performance goals, and compliance with mandatory continuing education requirements.
• Facilitates weekly team meetings to review cases, communicate supervisory updates, and program related issues.
• Participates in the staff interview and hiring process.
• Develops programming to ensure integration of Evidence Based Best Practices under direction of supervisor.
• Maintains client satisfaction level of the office in the area of client-staff interaction at or above the benchmark.
• Investigates incidents and untoward events and take appropriate actions as required.
• Closely monitors program compliance with all licensing and regulatory requirements.
• Regularly attends and participates in in-service meetings and other designated training events that will enhance clinical skills and maintain best practices.
• Participates in external meetings and UBHC wide meetings, committees, and task forces as assigned.
• Maintains appropriate consumer/patient records as mandated by University Behavioral Health Care policy.
• Consistently monitors all available and relevant electronic documentation reports for self and individual supervisees.
• Prepares and maintains oversight of clinical records for concurrent audits.
• Works collaboratively with Information Services to translate the data collection and reporting needs of the call center programs.
• Actively and constructively assists the leadership team with the start-up of new contracts.
• Responds to referrals, inquiries, and other contacts with professionals, outside agencies, and other parties in a professional and cordial manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to identify contacts that need a higher level of intervention, and follows departmental protocol for handling and triaging crisis or high risk calls.
• Designs, develops, delivers and supervises training relevant to the care of older adults.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in a behavioral health discipline or relevant field plus four years of post-graduate experience.
• Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.

Preferred Qualifications

• One year supervisory experience.
• Experience working with and/or providing services for older adults.

• Position requires the ability to speak clearly, write proficiently and to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast pace environment. Hearing is essential. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and document into an electronic medical record. May be required to lift up to 20 lbs..

• The work environment is generally pleasant, clean, well-lighted in a quiet to moderately loud setting. Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure as well as emergency or crisis situations.
