Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Field Service Engineer II for the Information and Systems Technology department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Field Service Engineer II provides computing and related end – user support to Cancer Institute of New Jersey faculty, staff, and guests in an environment which promotes industry best practices and optimal use of University resources. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Provides general problem diagnosis and support for departmental LAN and workgroups.
• Installs system, network and application software.
• Installs workstation hardware, PDAs and smart phones.
• Assists clients in understanding and accessing network-connected resources at all levels within the University’s network.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration.
• Three (3) years of experience in the use or support of desktop computing.
• Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Must be computer literate, with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
• General PC knowledge and Macintosh knowledge.
• Knowledge of industry standards and trends.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills suitable for “service environment”.
• Mechanical skills appropriate to desktop computer support.

Preferred Qualifications

• A+, MCDST and MCP certifications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise.
