Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an avid and driven Application Developer for the School of Arts and Sciences. Reports to the Assistant Director, Information Technology for Systems Development & Integration for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). Works as part of a small team of talented developers to build new applications and update existing legacy code across all areas of business covering administration, student systems, faculty support and internal tools for IT operations.

• Assists with the development of scalable web-based applications for the SAS.

• Responsible for making technology decisions and/or recommendations regarding advanced tools, platforms, etc.

• Develops and/or modifies software and systems according to project specification and provides programming solutions to complex development needs while creating code that is highly reusable and easily maintained.

• Evaluates and analyzes existing systems, and creates new systems to streamline existing processes and eliminates or minimizes the need for manual data processing.

• Leverages existing data sources both inside and outside of the SAS to verify/validate/reconcile records and minimize the need for repetitive processing.

• Works with various web developers, web designers, business managers, and product managers to create websites and web applications containing required features.

• Provides technical advice to other departments within the university.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience with three or more years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and relational SQL databases.
• Experience working with other common languages like Perl, C# or Java.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Sound knowledge of programming methods and procedures including a solid understanding of Object Oriented programming.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Deep understanding of web technologies, complex databases and a healthy respect for data security.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in an MVC framework such as Zend Framework.
• Experience working in Linux/Unix and Windows.
• Knowledge of academic terms and processes and experience in Higher Education are preferred.
