Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III for the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women located in Clinton, New Jersey. The Mental Health Clinician III participates in the assessment of clinical needs of adult inmates sentenced to the Department of Corrections.

  • Arrives at DSM 5 diagnoses with precision and accuracy by the end of the evaluation session.
  • Provides individual assessment, as clinically indicated to assigned inmates; provides crisis intervention services, group psycho-education and/or psychotherapy as assigned; demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of adult inmates.
  • Develops treatment plans; makes clinically based decisions regarding appropriateness for treatment, as well as preferred treatment modality.
  • Provides crisis intervention and individual psychotherapy services to inmates; provides group cognitive, behavioral forms of group psychotherapy, and psycho-education model.
  • Provides case administration services which include the development and implementation of treatment plans for assigned patients, and ongoing assessments and release/discharge planning.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work or directly related mental health discipline.
  • Licensure in Social Work (LSW).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Computer literacy. Typing. Ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential. Extensive reading required. Extended sitting is required. Ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities. Lifting of up to 10 pounds. Hearing and sight are essential. Ability to speak clearly is required. May be required to travel within the state. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.

Special Conditions
  • Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Violations of NJ Department of Corrections and/or being banned by the Department of Corrections to work at a NJ Department of Corrections’ facility are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required. Must possess own vehicle.
