Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Coordinator of International Services (Students/Scholars) for the Department of Global Services, Centers for Global Advancement and International Affairs.

Under the general direction of the Associate Director – Student Services of Global Services, the position is responsible for immigration and cultural adjustment advising, SEVIS compliance and coordination of immigration and intercultural programming. Works closely with Associate Director, IS Team and various campus offices to identify and meet the needs of international students and scholars of Rutgers University. Assists the Associate Director in establishing policies and procedures which help create an inclusive and supportive intercultural environment.

• Advises international students primarily, but also advises scholars, on immigration regulations, travel, U.S. employment authorization, educational concerns, and cultural adjustments.
• Processes travel signatures, immigration transfers, changes of status, program extensions, and reinstatement applications.
• Authorizes and recommends students for the employment benefits appropriate to their immigration status.
• Intervenes with at risk students by providing advice, assistance, referral, and follow-up; when appropriate, confers with faculty members and administrators to ensure academic progress and success of each student.
• Responds to crisis situations involving international students.
• Serves as Designated School Official for the F-1 Program and Alternate Responsible Officer for the J-1 Program.
• Maintains records according to USCIS specifications for F-1 students and may also include J-1 exchange visitors.
• Assists with SEVIS compliance through the upkeep of FsaAtlas.
• Monitors changes in student records and communicates changes to the federal government through SEVIS.
• Develops and implements orientation for international students primarily but may also include scholars.
• Coordinates and conducts workshops on immigration and cultural issues as needed.
• Attends workshops and other professional development activities as appropriate.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education Administration or a related field.
• Two years of experience working with international students and scholars in a university setting.
• Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident to meet federal regulatory requirements for professional practice as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
• Extensive knowledge of F-1 and J-1 regulations and SEVIS as well as familiarity with FsaAtlas.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
• Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in a cross-cultural environment with sensitivity to the diversity and complexity of international student/scholar issues and concerns.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working or studying abroad.
