Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM).

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research on histidine protein kinases. The project will involve biochemical, biophysical and structural characterization of the phosphatase activity of histidine protein kinases. The project may also involve crystallization, fluorescence assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, and computational analyses.

• Carries out biochemical and biophysical characterization of histidine protein kinases with the goal of defining the molecular mechanism of their phosphatase activity.
• Conducts crystallization, fluorescence assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, and computational analyses.
• Participates in the configuration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, including computers, necessary for conducting the project.
• Prepares scientific manuscripts for publication, and contribute to the preparation of research grant and fellowship applications.
• Supervises and guides the research project of an undergraduate research assistant.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related science.
• Ph.D. Candidates who meet requirements with All But Dissertation (ABD) will be considered.
• Prior experience and productivity in research.
• Experience with standard molecular biology techniques, protein purification, and biochemical and biophysical analyses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with crystallization, fluorescence assays, isothermal titration calorimetry, and computational analyses including molecular dynamics.
• Previous mentoring experience.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Computer data input.

• Work Environment: Lab environment with moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Exposure to hazardous chemicals. Universal precautions are mandatory.
