Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Department of Surgery at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The RWJMG Licensed Practical Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, provides focused, technical nursing care to clinical and office operations.

• Assists physicians and physician assistants during scheduled office hours.
• Prepares and appropriately sets up clinic rooms for patient visits.
• Reviews patient charts prior to office visits for essential paperwork and test results.
• Obtains insurance precertification for prescribed clinical testing for special procedures (CT, MRI, Ultrasound etc.).
• Provides patient follow-ups for results of prescribed clinical tests and forwards results to appropriate physicians.
• Coordinates pre-operative procedures and calls patients to check in pre- and post-op.
• Composes “Return to Work” and disability paperwork for patients.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Possession of a valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to function in a team environment.
• Word processing and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least six (6) months of related experience.
• At least six (6) months of phone triage experience.
CPR certified.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.

• Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
