Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking someone for the Office of Disability Services to coordinate learning and assistive technologies for students with disabilities.
• Provides alternative format textbooks and course materials that work with the student’s individual technology needs at all Rutgers campuses.
• Meets individually with students registered with the Office of Disability Services to evaluate the needs related to technological requirements and provide interventions and solutions for accessing course information, technologies and resources.
• Works with instructors and faculty and the student to determine potential accessibility obstacles related to coursework and determine appropriate reasonable accommodations and technology to address these barriers.
• Responsible for assisting with the daily operation of a learning and assistive technology lab which includes troubleshooting.
• Maintenance and inventory of equipment.
• Recommends upgrades and updates for equipment software and hardware.
• Maintains status reports of textbook conversions.
• Keeps accurate records of projects, ensuring reasonable accommodation processes are timely and effective.
• Trains students with disabilities on equipment software, hardware, applications and technologies.
• Trains of student workers on the scanning of textbook and materials.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Requires up to two years relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with adults with disabilities in higher education, knowledge of disabilities, and current assistive technologies. Experience training adults with disabilities to use assistive technology and understanding of appropriate learning strategies.
Significant knowledge of adaptive equipment, software and various operating systems.
Demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of software and application required to utilize assistive technology on mobile and other electronic devices (OSX and Android operating systems).
Previous work in disability services or studies in the health fields a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast paced environment.
Must have previous customer service experience.
Excellent communication skills, listening, oral and written.
Must have previous experience using Microsoft Office software, including: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access.
