Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking Network Installation Technician for the Enterprise Infrastructure, Telecommunications Division.
Responsible for all phases of the installation, setup, termination, and testing of local area networks, fiber-optic and data cabling in a wide variety of working environments and network topologies.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a high school/vocational school or equivalent and a minimum of three years experience in the installation and testing of network or similar cabling. Equivalent advanced technical training may be substituted for up to one year of the experience requirements. Experience should include the installation and modification of metallic and nonmetallic conduit ladder racks and raceways for voice and data cabling. Must have practical experience with SC and ST fiber-optic terminations and test equipment. Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds. Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. Must be able to communicate effectively. Requires a valid driver’s license, two years driving experience and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Must have the ability to group lead.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Associates Degree (or equivalent experience) in information technology, or voice services delivery and installation. Experiential hand on knowledge of telecommunications voice technologies and their application.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of voice and VoIP installation and maintenance techniques.

Equipment Utilized

Must possess a valid drivers license. Must be able to operate a service van. Must be able to use Fluke network testers and telephone testing equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Must be able to lift heavy items of 60 lbs or more. Must be able to climb a 6 foot ladder.
