Posting Summary

Rutgers School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Oral Biology. The postdoctoral fellow will perform research with a focus on examining mechanisms involved in tooth development using genetic animal models and tissue regeneration with human and mouse oral stem cells.

  • Performs experiments for gene expression, and protein expression in vitro and in vivo.
  • Performs cell culture (oral stem cells, neural crest cells, primary mouse and human cells and immortalized cells).
  • Performs survival surgery (dental and bone surgery) in mice and analysis of microstructure in microCT.
  • Performs immunostaining for paraffin tissue sections or frozen tissue sections.
  • Performs bone or tooth histomorphometry.
  • Maintains animal colonies including weaning animals and genotyping.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment to meet unique needs of the research activity.
  • Assists with preparation of grant proposals, presentations and publications.
  • Actively seeks new collaborative projects within the department and externally.
  • Supervises the undergraduate or master’s students.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers’ regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in physiology, molecular biology, pulp biology, or a related field.
  • Must have at least two years’ postdoc experience and must be extremely self-motivated, organized and detail-oriented. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience with gene expression, protein expression, and histology is essential.
  • Sound understanding of methods and approaches relating to survival surgery in mice is desired.
  • Working knowledge of histology, cellular biology, molecular biology and survival dental or bone surgery in mice is necessary.

  • Ability to plan and carry out a research projects.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and take personal responsibility for delivery of work.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other lab members and staff at all levels.
