Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Director of Violence Prevention, Victim Assistance and Education. Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center.

The Director of Violence Prevention, Victim Assistance and Education:
• Responsible for assessing the developmental, social and environmental issues, needs and assets at Rutgers University-Newark related to college health promotion and interpersonal violence.
• Provides direct and clinical services to students who experience interpersonal violence.
• Provides advocacy and support to students via on campus, criminal justice, and community resources.
• Responds to and advocates for diverse student needs and builds support and collaboration within the university community and within the Newark community, as appropriate, to provide comprehensive care for students.
• Organizes, plans, implements and evaluates policies, programs and services needed to strengthen university and community capacity to effectively address violence prevention and victim assistance.
• Proactively work to improve student health and safety, student resiliency, and public relations in this area for the Rutgers-Newark university community.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Also requires a minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience in an administrative and/or supervisory function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling or a related field preferred.
Experience working within a college or university environment is preferred. Analytic and communication skills; Knowledge, skills, experience in fields of Health Promotion and interpersonal violence/sexual assault prevention and education. Experience assisting individuals that have been victims of sexual/interpersonal violence. Knowledge of state and federal statutes related to sexual assault/interpersonal violence.
