Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Educator III, for the Population Science department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Health Educator III will work to expand cancer education and outreach in the South Asian community. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Assists with the planning, organizing, and implementation of the health education outreach programs to patients, community organizations, researchers and partnering institutions.
• Facilitates between the multi- disciplinary research team and members of the community to ensure the development of culturally sensitive, relevant, evidence-based, health promotion and dissemination strategies.
• Serves as a resource to research investigators on cultural and community issues and develops education/outreach and message dissemination plans.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, or a related field plus two (2) years of health education experience related to cancer control in ethnic minorities or a Master’s Degree plus one (1) year of health education experience related to cancer control in ethnic minorities is required.
• Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be detail oriented, well organized, flexible, and resourceful.
• Must be able to accomplish tasks with minimum supervision.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of word processing, presentation, database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with or demonstrated willingness to learn other research and internet oriented software packages (e.g., Endnote, Contribute, Teleform, SNAP, ATLAS.ti, Ovid search engines) is desirable.
• Strong writing and communication skills, manuscript and grant writing coordination experience preferred.
• Bilingual skills (English/Hindi or Urdu) preferred.

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

Work Environment:
Office environment with moderate noised and minimal exposure to infection and communicable diseases.
