Posting Summary

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Research Associate I for the Department of Psychiatry. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate I performs professional level experiments and research using various techniques. The Research Associate I conducts research using mouse models of neuropsychiatric disorders, including behavioral analysis, surgery, dissections, preparation of tissue for electrophysiological, biochemical and histological analysis.

  • Performs research independently or as assigned, relating to investigatory activities of the laboratory, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
  • Involved in rodent handling, breeding, and genotyping.
  • Trains and leads students through various laboratory related activities.
  • Generates, compiles and presents data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity.
  • Performs experimental procedures including Western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology and behavioral analysis.
  • Presents at lab meetings and/or scientific conferences.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. Degree or equivalent in a relevant science.
  • Two (2) years of related research experience in rodent handling, surgical procedures including regulation of anesthesia, administration of injections (IV/IP/IM/SC/IT), immunohistochemical experimentation including fixation methods of tissues, antibody staining and detection, and ability to conduct tissue dissection, protein purification and preparation of samples using high throughput methods.

  • Lab is equipped for in vitro electrophysiology with surgical instruments, Faraday cage, and microscopes.
  • Behavioral testing room equipped with several behavioral testing devices such as a rotarod, 3-chamber sociability, an elevated plus shaped maze.
