Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III (Per Diem) to work at New Jersey State Parole Board with the Community Supervision for Life Program. The Mental Health Clinician III participates in the assessment of clinical needs of adult inmates sentenced to the Department of Corrections.

  • Arrives at DSM 5 diagnoses with precision and accuracy by the end of the evaluation session.
  • Provides individual assessment, as clinically indicated to assigned inmates; provides crisis intervention services, group psycho-education and/or psychotherapy as assigned; demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of adult inmates.
  • Develops treatment plans; makes clinically based decisions regarding appropriateness for treatment, as well as preferred treatment modality.
  • Provides crisis intervention and individual psychotherapy services to inmates; provides group cognitive, behavioral forms of group psychotherapy, and psycho-education model.
  • Provides case administration services which include the development and implementation of treatment plans for assigned patients, and ongoing assessments and release/discharge planning.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in a social work or directly related mental health discipline.
  • Applicants with a degree in Social Work must possess a minimum of an active NJ license, LSW (Licensed Social Worker) or LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Computer literacy. Typing. Ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the
New Jersey State Parole Board (NJSPB) in shared office environments. Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is
essential. Extensive reading required. Extended sitting is required. Ability to move from unit to unit within correctional
facilities. Lifting of up to 20 pounds. Hearing and sight are essential. Ability to speak clearly is required. May be required to
travel within the state. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.

Special Conditions
  • Must be approved by the NJSPB and adhere to all NJSPB requirements. Employees will be subject to and must
    comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJSPB. Violations of NJSPB rules and regulations and/or being
    banned by the NJSPB to work at a NJSPB site are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
  • Valid Driver’s License. Must possess own vehicle.
