Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Department of Pediatrics – Pulmonary Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis Center at Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Reports to the Division Chief.

The Advanced Practice Nurse is a member of the care delivery team and is assigned to work with a specific service line or department to provide patient care across the continuum. APN – Providers will have privileges in the hospital and ambulatory environments, and along with the attending of record manage all aspects of patient care. Success of their role will be measured by triple aim: quality, satisfaction and effective and efficient utilization of resources.

• Performs comprehensive evaluation of patients and documents promptly in EMR.
• Develops and implements a plan of care in collaboration with physician(s) and orders diagnostic procedures as well as manages and refers patients appropriately.
• Prescribes medication in accordance with the regulations of the institution and the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act.
• Conducts outpatient cystic fibrosis related appointments including sick, routine, IV follow-up, hospital follow-up and annual studies.
• Coordinates CF patient conference and completed annual reviews on selected CF patients.
• Performs spirometry, prepares asthma action plan and provides specific teaching to patient and families.
• Collects data for CF Registry and clinical research projects.
• Performs follow-up examinations on established patients.
• Interacts with health insurance companies, including pre-certification/preauthorization for testing, radiological procedures, admissions and for specialized medications.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, with a minimum of a Master’s degree.
• At least two years of related nursing experience preferably as an Advanced Practice Nurse required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey and certified as a Nurse Practitioner with a specialization in pediatric health nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with pediatric asthma, cystic fibrosis, and other pediatric pulmonary diseases and experience with educating patients, families and staff on the diagnosis and care of children with cystic fibrosis and asthma preferred.
EMR experience preferred.
• Computer skills highly desired.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Requires standing on feet for long periods of time while examining patients and performing duties. Manual dexterity required for using clinical equipment. Near visual acuity required for reading long reports. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

• Work Environment: Usual hazards encountered by all hospital personnel in addition to the exposure to ionizing radiation. Exposure to blood borne pathogens.
