Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Clinic Services Representative II for The Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Ambulatory Services, the primary purpose of the Clinic Services Representative II is to perform a variety of complex patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, and billing and collection duties in support of the Clinic and Infusion operations. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Responds to routine inquiries regarding a number of operating and billing issues, receives patient payments and performs routine bookkeeping tasks.
• Participates in the Quality Improvement Program in order to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of services provided.
• Interacts with all patient populations with a focus on patients with cancer.
• Promptly answers incoming calls in courteous and professional manner.
• Reviews provider schedules daily for any openings to ensure proper provider utilization, updates all scheduled appointments with referring physician information, and ensures all appointments scheduled for the same date of service are linked in IDX.
• Verifies insurance eligibility through WebMD and/or Navinet on all patients every ninety (90) days.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical experience, including at least six (6) months of scheduling and receptionist experience preferably in a medical office setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions required.
• Must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of guest relations and be able to maintain a professional demeanor and customer service orientation under busy and stressful situations.
• Effective oral and written skills.
• Must be computer literate with working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with medical terminology, billing, and collections processes preferred.

Physical Demands:
Position requires standing 1/3 of the time, walking to 1/3 of the time, sitting over 2/3 of the time reaching with hand and arms over 2/3 of the time, climbing or balancing to 1/3 of the time, stooping or bending to 1/3 of the time, talking or hearing over 2/3 of the time, color vision to identify and distinguish color, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus over 2/3 of the time, the ability to lift up to ten (10) pounds 2/3 of the time.

Work Environment:
Fast paced, high-pressure office/clinic/hospital environment with stringent deadlines and moderate to distracting noise. Requires the ability to work and cooperate with faculty, students, managers, employees and the public at all levels in order to exchange ideas and information. Clinical setting includes minimal exposure to blood, orders and exposure to infections and communicable diseases. Requires the ability to work with all patient populations with a primary focus on cancer.
