The Bloustein Center for Survey Research directors and staff have more than 80 years combined experience conducting survey and evaluation research. The BCSR is a full-service research center offering clients assistance with study and sampling design, multiple method data collection, focus groups, analysis, reports, and presentations.

The BCSR staff has extensive experience conducting survey and evaluation research in various public policy fields. The center has conducted needs assessments, program evaluations, tracking studies, and outreach analyses in education, social services, health and health care, maternal and child health, behavioral health, disability assessment, the environment, sustainability, business, and transportation.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Assistant for The Bloustein Center for Survey Research (BCSR). The position provides support to the BCSR’s project coordinators with daily responsibilities on ongoing survey research projects. The Research Project Assistant assists on current data collection projects in a variety of states related to the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and reports to the project coordinators on a daily basis. Projects are grant-funded. Primary project responsibilities are on collection of survey data for the PRAMS project where this position is responsible for handling all phases of data collection including mailings, survey administration, phone follow-ups, and on-site data collection tasks.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Conducts telephone surveys, including making initial telephone calls, administering protocols for contact with new moms, administering scripted surveys and entering confidential information into an electronic database, complying with IRB protocols administration, making phone follow-up with new moms, and scheduling appointments.
• Assists with data collection activities, including assisting with data maintenance of respondent databases, distribution of memos and training materials, scheduling of interviews, conducting internet searches for valid contact information.
• Assists with project mailings, including photocopying, assembling mailings, and affixing postage.
• Trains and supervises part-time interviewing staff.
• Contributes to a well-functioning team environment.
• Helps to create an environment where staff members are empowered to learn, are held accountable for their work, clearly understand expectations, and are appreciated and valued for their efforts; and creates and fosters an environment of teamwork, professionalism, creative problem-solving, and positivity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree preferably in the social sciences or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Should be computer literate and have excellent interpersonal skills, especially on the telephone.
• The person must have knowledge of pregnancy-related health issues and ability to manage and motivate part-time interviewing staff.
• Candidates that are bi-lingual (English and Spanish) are strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidates that are bi-lingual (English and Spanish) are strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated attention to detail in prior social science research studies is highly preferred.

Equipment Utilized

• The person in the position will use Microsoft Access, Word, Excel and the PRAMS Integrated Data System (PIDS) for these projects.
