Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory Researcher IIIBRTC for The Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ).
The Laboratory Researcher IIIBRTC is responsible for analyzing experimental data, manipulating and interpreting large data sets in accordance with established protocols.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Entails consultation, execution and analysis of a variety of technologies in the genomics arena.
• Provide routine molecular biology support to the Analytical Services Group of RUCDR. Principal support will be provided for generation and analysis of gene expression, genotyping, microarray, and Next-Generation Sequencing data.
• Develop standard operating procedures and develop protocols for genomic applications.
• Perform computational tasks at an expert level; interpret and prepare data reports as needed.
• Implement quality control processes throughout various workflows and manage projects in order to achieve accurate results.
• Maintain associated instruments in good working order including supply and consumable maintenance.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• This position requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or computational biology with a minimum of two years research experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy are required.
• Must be familiar with genomics applications and technical approaches such as real-time quantitative PCR, high throughput SNP genotyping, microarrays, and Next-Generation Sequencing.
• A qualified candidate will be capable of working independently to analyze genetic data, organize files, and generate detailed reports.
• A concentration in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics or computational biology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Detailed working knowledge of molecular biology reagents and instrumentation is desirable.
• Favorable consideration will be given to candidates with the following attributes:
• Expertise in analysis of microarray-based genotyping and gene expression data
• Expertise in analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing data and knowledge of best practices.
• Expertise in assessment of genetic variation and deleterious effects.
• Experience with relevant Sequencing Analysis tools; such as BWA, GATK, SAMtools or related.
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and software such as R, Linux, Perl, Python, and web development tools.
• Experience with Cloud-based analytical tools is preferred, but not required.

• Incumbent must have strong understanding of genomic related technologies and help the BRTC draft manuscripts proposals, and reports. Must have some understanding of basic data analysis techniques and software.
