Posting Summary

Since Sept 2015, the Biomedical Engineering Medical Device Development Center has largely been managed by one dedicated person who, with the help of many department members, has laid the groundwork for the next phase of development including new programs, courses , research projects and services. The Center has reached a critical mass of workload where another person is needed in order to take it to the next stage of development where the Center can be a robust hub of activities related to the medical device industry.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Applicants must have a PhD in biomedical engineering, and multiple years of relevant research and development experience in industry, and experience mentoring and teaching students.

Familiarity with product development including medical device concept generation, medical device procedure development, preclinical testing, design control, medical device evaluation per international guidance (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 10933), human factors engineering, regulatory pathways and requirements for commercialization (e.g., 510k, PMA, CE Mark), experience as the R&D lead for clinical assessments and early stage clinical trials (IDE), as well as a basic understanding of intellectual property is required.

Product commercialization experience, and experience leading high profile strategic programs within the medical device industry is required.

Familiarity with the development and implementation of business plans for innovative medical devices, and experience in successfully leading collaborations across industrial, medical, and academic institutions is a plus.

Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and should be able to effectively communicate science and business to a variety of audiences.

Overview
Statement

Assist in planning and developing the core capabilities and programs fundamental to the strategic plan of the MDDC. Assist in the execution of the MDDC initiatives and programs. Assist in developing a robust biomedical materials and devices translational research program. Collaborate with faculty, staff students, university personnel and industry partners to further develop the MDDC.
