Posting Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) shall be expected to devote one hundred percent (100%) of his or her time each month in the performance of the CMO Administrative Responsibilities for Bergen Regional Medical Center.

The CMO will create an atmosphere of tolerance and collaboration between the medical staff and nursing and ancillary staff and achieve successful hospital quality, efficiency and financial metrics. Primary responsibilities include:
1. Responsible for the day to day clinical operations of the hospital.
2. Responsible for ensuring a robust peer review and credentialing process, ensuring quality, safety, service and behavioral issues on the part of the medical staff are addressed fairly and in a timely manner.
3. Active oversight over the care coordination program including monitoring of the appropriateness of procedures, admissions and utilization of resources.
4. Oversee medical directors at the hospital and evaluate their job performance.
5. Collaboration with the Hospital and Corporate Compliance Officers regarding physician issues that involve regulatory compliance.
6. Actively involved in selecting, training and orienting, any hospital-related department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
7. Ensures compliance with Federal and State law and accrediting and licensing agencies, and leads initiatives and strategies to accomplish this.


Minimum Education and Experience

Doctoral Degree (MD or DO), New Jersey State Medical License, and board certified in their primary medical disciple are required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an acute care hospital or academic healthcare setting. Expertise and interest in quality improvement and patient relations in a complex health care environment is required Master’s degree in Healthcare, or Business Administration preferred. Ability to act as an effective agent for change; recognizes the need for change, adapts and inspires others to adapt. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Demonstrated leadership ability and interpersonal effectiveness required to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines. Ability to analyze complex problems and develop recommendations and solutions required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated computer competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) is required. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to work independently with little supervision in a fast-paced environment is essential. Must maintain confidentiality regarding work assignments. Ability to work additional hours periodically for certain assignments is required. Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Care Plus Bergen (the Hospital) is a 1070 bed acute care hospital located in Paramus, NJ with primary services lines in the areas of Acute Care, Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse and Long Term Care. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will partner and collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and hospital Medial staff to develop and promote the delivery of the highest quality patient care, ensure continued compliance to accrediting agency guidelines, and ensure appropriate care and disposition of patients who seek care at the medical center.
