Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking Accounting Specialist to provide support to the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI). Under general supervision of the EOHSI Business Manager, this position develops, prepares and tracks budgets for grant and contract submissions and awards for their assigned divisions of EOHSI. The Accounting Specialist provides budget updates, projections and analyses to EOHSI Principal Investigators on awarded projects. The key duties of this position are the following:

• Analyzes data and prepares financial documents and reports for internal and external purposes for various EOHSI projects.
• Oversees the annual operating budget for the Rutgers CounterACT Center of Excellence and associated sub-awards and sub-contracts.
• Develops, prepares and tracks budgets for awarded EOHSI grants and contracts providing updates, income and spending projections and analyses to Principal Investigators on a monthly basis.
• Works closely with EOHSI Principal Investigators to develop draft and final budgets for inclusion in extramural research grant submissions using budget formats and templates required by federal and state granting agencies.
• Interprets and applies university financial policies, state and federal legislation and granting agency rules and regulations.
• Maintains all salary source allocations for awarded research grants and contracts assigned to the Accounting Specialist.
• Participates in budget preparation for special projects on an as needed basis.
• Delivers timely and accurate grant and contract financial reports including spending trend analysis using Oracle-based on-line systems.
• Performs various other tasks and duties as assigned to support the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI).

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
• Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a financial/accounting function.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong communication skills are required.
• Experience with financial computer programs and a thorough knowledge of Excel is required.
• Ability to work as part of a team and the understanding of biomedical research administration is a plus.
