Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Healthcare Is seeking a UCHC Administrator of Nursing Services & Accreditations, located in Trenton, NJ. The Administrator of Nursing Services & Accreditations will oversee the coordination of the activities of a variety of healthcare professionals and interacts with corrections and administrative staff to achieve the goals of the University Correctional Health Care and fulfill requirements of an Agreement with NJ Department of Corrections.

• Provides advanced level nursing care that meets quality and quantity standards, when required.
• Assists the Chief Operating Officer for University Correctional Health Care in the overall program operations.
• Works closely with the Statewide Medical Director, Pharmacy Director, Dental Director, Psychology Director, Regional Nurse Managers and Department Nurse Managers to facilitate inmate care functions throughout UCHC.
• Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of and applying relevant nursing care for adult inmates (age 18-64), seniors (age 65+) and adolescents (age <18).

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
• Masters’ Degree in Business Administration or Health Administration is required
• Seven (7) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience with a minimum of five (5) years of management experience within the nursing profession.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Licensed to practice nursing in the State of New Jersey with registration for current year.
CPR Certified.
• Excellent communication, outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
• Computer literacy experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must possess own vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as NCCHC surveyor; active CCHP certification; and prior experience in a unionized environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Typing, ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, lifting of up to 40 pounds, hearing is essential, required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions, on-call responsibilities.

A generally crisis oriented, secure care environment working with inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. The administrator must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers.

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Violations of NJ Department of Corrections and/or being banned by the Departments of Corrections to work at a NJ Department of Corrections’ facility are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
