Posting Summary

Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) is seeking a Secretary III to work in its University Dental Center in Somerdale, NJ (South Jersey). Under direction, this individual will act as Secretary/Receptionist for the Office of Clinical Affairs and Extramural Clinics. Responsibilities include scheduling patient appointments, greeting patients and visitors, answering telephones, pulling patient charts, implementing patient registration and billing.

• Responsible for maintaining schedule book for Clinic.
• Enters, stores, and retrieves chart information via dental software program for all patients assigned daily.
• Assists the Dental Director and CODE Director with the preparation of reports for the Dean’s Office.
• Implements patient registration, billing, account review and other procedures for the day-to-day management of patient’s accounts.
• Verifies insurance eligibility for patients; establishes and approves method of payment.
• Becomes familiar with dental classification and coding, helps maintain and update coding and fee schedules.
• Prepares monthly reports as requested.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Graduation from an accredited program in secretarial studies plus two years of full-time secretarial experience. An additional year of experience is required in lieu of the secretarial program.

Applicants passing the Certified Professional Secretary Exam may apply the exam towards either an accredited program in Secretarial Studies or one year of full-time secretarial experience. College credits may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for secretarial experience. A maximum of sixty credits or two years may be substituted for two years of secretarial experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience with Microsoft and Excel required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in AxiUm practice management database preferred.
