Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist III for the Cancer Pharmacology department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position, are the following:

• Assists with routine cancer research laboratory projects (tissue culture, molecular biology techniques and/or mouse
experiments), as directed by the Principal Investigator.
• Receives incoming supplies, opens, unpacks, and verifies that the number of items received, agree with packing slip.
Follows established procedures for processing paperwork and follow-up on orders.
• Develops and implements new lab protocols and troubleshoots technical protocols.
• Assists with the training and mentoring of all new personnel in the lab (students, postdocs, technicians, etc).
• Assists in the preparation of grant applications for the funding of research activities.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree in Biology or a relevant science, plus (1) year of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a relevant science, plus two (2) years of related research experience, is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to organize assigned laboratory work and develop effective work methods.
• Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform simple laboratory procedures.
• Effective oral and communication skills.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools, such as; Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25lbs.

Work Environment:
Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, anti-neoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
