Posting Summary

Rutgers School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist I for the Department of Oral Biology. Under the direction of the Chair of the Oral Biology Department, is responsible for managing a large size laboratory area, including assisting in the teaching of course work in the area of Oral Biology, to dental students and dentists who are seeking graduate specialty training. Supervises, trains (students and technicians), and performs other administrative duties, including; equipment and purchase recommendations and maintenance. Responsibilities include instruction of employees and students in operation of laboratory equipment.

• Assists in the establishment of performance standards, selection of methodology and coordination of analytical, microbiological, immunological and molecular biological techniques, for basic and clinical research and ensures conformance with the goals and objectives of the department.
• Performs various research and clinical laboratory operations independently, or as assigned, related to teaching and investigatory activities of the laboratory, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations, and conclusions.
• Assists with statistical analysis of laboratory or sponsored study data and in the preparation and mailing of reports to sponsors.
• Participates in the preparation, maintenance, and distribution of teaching material, eg, articles, notes, slides, and overheads.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Microbiology.
• Three years of related dental research experience, including product development work and genetic manipulation of oral pathogens, to better understand their virulence factors.

• Previous training in dentistry.
