Overview

Rutgers Dining Services is one of the largest student dining operations in the country, operating five student dining facilities serving over 6.7 million meals and several cash facilities serving over 370,000 meals annually. In addition to serving students, Rutgers Catering provides service for over 5,000 university events.
Dining Services operates continuously from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. weekdays in the main dining room and is available for take-out meals from 7 a.m. until midnight campus-wide. Continuous service is also available weekends with slightly shorter hours of service. Additionally, Rutgers Dining Services hosts various theme dinners and other special events during the school year. Our website offers the daily menu at each dining hall, and the Healthy Dining Team encourages students to make positive eating choices.
Rutgers Dining Services is self-operated and provides service to the New Brunswick/Piscataway and Camden Campuses.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Facilities Supervisor for Rutgers Dining Services. This position reports to the Executive Director. In conjunction with the guidelines of University Procurement this individual procures all non-food items such as equipment, supplies and services used by Dining Services.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Supervises a comprehensive program of facilities management including building/equipment maintenance and repair.
• Plans, researches and supervises new facility design, as well as projected facility renovations.
• Writes specifications, prepares bids and identifies and selects suppliers for all non-food items.
• Researches equipment, products and services and regulations as it relates to the food service industry.
• Develops standards and specifications for kitchen and service equipment, large and small wares, custodial and office supply furnishings and replacement parts.
• Reviews, evaluates and approves dining unit requisitions for supplies, goods and services, and determines correctness of non-food purchases in accordance with University policy.
• Reviews and validates invoices for accuracy before payment.
• Traces all questionable invoice and repair charges, and adjudicates when necessary.
• Supervises administrative and clerical staff.
• Ensures compliance with all University, city, state and federal regulations regarding occupational health and safety, chemical usage, fire detection, prevention, control and signage, safety and security of plant properties and personnel, environmental controls and disability access.
• Refines the proper use of chemicals, equipment and procedures in the cleaning of Dining facilities.
• Interfaces with other University departments; coordinates and monitors activities of all outside contractors, including architects, consultants, service organizations, and vendors, to ensure required work is performed properly.
• Verifies legitimacy of charges for labor, product, material and overhead costs associated with the maintenance and repair of Dining facilities and equipment.
• Consults with architects and other food service professionals on the design of student dining facilities.
• Develops an effective and comprehensive energy management and utility program.
• Improves efficiency of energy usage, promotes conservation, and addresses environmental concerns.
• Advises the Executive Director as to upcoming needs and their costs.
• Responsible for the supervision of Laundry operations, utility worker/drivers and two warehouses.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a bachelor’s degree and five years related experience, to include progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in facilities administration, construction management and project management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in procurement of sales and supplies, equipment and sundry non-food items required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong leadership and management ability, creativity and flexibility.
• Knowledge of Right-to-Know, O.S.H.A. and P.E.O.S.H. acts required.
• ServSafe certification required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Office equipment, occasional use of diagnostic tools.
