Posting Summary

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Global Tuberculosis Institute’s Lattimore Clinic. The Staff Nurse skillfully administers total patient care based on the individual needs of persons with tuberculosis and their families.

  • Assesses the health status of assigned patients.
  • Interacts in a collaborative fashion with the Lattimore Clinic Medical Director, the Nurse Manager and with the Assistant Nurse Managers and field staff.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates individualized care, based on patient assessment and medical plan of care.
  • Provides direct patient care or direction and supervision to other health team members, to ensure proper implementation of plan of care.
  • Teaches patient/significant others about health/illnesses state and plan of care.
  • Ensures that patient/significant others are prepared for discharge and health maintenance in the home setting.
  • Ensures all procedures are performed based on established standards; demonstrates competency in performing all procedures, within scope of practice.
  • Documents all patient care; maintains supplies and equipment.
  • Administers medication and therapies; maintains patient safety, comfort, and cleanliness.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the State of New Jersey.
  • Graduate of an accredited, state approved, School of Nursing with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • One (1) year or more of responsible nursing experience, in a university affiliated tertiary care facility or public health setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, collaborative spirit, and organizational abilities required.
  • CPR certification required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the management and treatment of tuberculosis and/or other communicable diseases, or public health management, is preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Use of personal protective equipment including an N-95 respirator.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to lift and move patients with/without reasonable accommodations.
