Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Registrar for the School of Nursing. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Services,Operations & Planning, the Registrar is responsible for maintaining the official records of the School of Nursing (SON), planning and implementing registration, ensuring relevant University and School policies are enforced and coordinating office activities with a variety of offices and services throughout the University. The Registrar is committed to providing exemplary services to constituents including students, faculty, and staff/administration, of the School of Nursing (SON). The incumbent must be a creative professional who understands the duties and responsibilities of the Registrar’s Office and serves as an agent for change that continuously advances and improves the functions of registrar services. Specifically, this position develops and implements strategies to grow technology applications and improve registrar services.

  • Serves as the official custodian for all student academic records for the School of Nursing (SON).
  • Develops innovative strategies, in conjunction with supervisors and program directors, to best serve students.
  • Manages the registration related tasks, performed by the registrar staff, as well as, the overall efficiency of the office, to ensure customer service needs are met to the highest standards.
  • Provides registrar related reports to outside agencies and internal offices, data requested by governmental agencies and other reports as requested, or needed, to assist schools in monitoring enrollment trends.
  • Responsible for technical functions of the office, including but not limited to; web registration, student and faculty portal services, MOODLE, BlackBoard, Sakai, e-College, Canvas, and others, as needed.
  • Responsible for implementation of strategies to serve a greater number of students through “on-line” vehicles.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of student data for the National Student Clearinghouse for the School of Nursing (SON).
  • Ensures data which is needed for reporting requirements is completed in a timely and accurate manner, to fulfill institutional needs.
  • Responsible for conducting internal audits for registrar functions to ensure quality controls.
  • Assists school leadership in the preparation and production of academic calendar.
  • Assists in compliance with Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy and overseas the graduation audit processes for all School of Nursing (SON) programs.
  • Collaborates with the SON IT office to advance services through technology for students and faculty.
  • Partners with other university officials on registrar related functions, mandates, and best practices.
  • Oversees the certification of student enrollment and academic and degree verification for a variety of agencies and offices including the Veterans Administration (VA), certification agencies, and state boards of nursing.
  • Oversees functions related to student health insurance requirements, workforce development registration requests and others.
  • Documents and maintains, Office of the Registrar standard operating procedure manual.
  • Serves as the web content manager for, and is responsible for, all Office of the Registrar web pages.
  • Responsible for the hiring, firing, promotion, evaluation, and/or discipline of Office of the Registrar employees, as appropriate.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, plus two (2) years of experience as an Assistant Registrar (equivalent or higher level).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies including faculty, students and staff and must work well independently.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations pertaining to student records and confidentiality, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Exhibit excellent analytical and complex problem resolution skills, presentation skills are required.
  • Experience in a self-directed position and the proven ability to set and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with ability to delegate to staff and ability to lead the department, in change, that promotes improved assessment, performance, and systems, is required.
  • Prior experience in training or teaching.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment, are required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is necessary.
