Overview

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC’s 1,060 experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff are dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC, one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country, has a budget of $260 million and has 15 sites throughout New Jersey. Services are readily accessible and include: inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family/caregiver support, community outreach and case management, supportive housing, supported employment, prevention and consultation, employee assistance programs, and a licensed therapeutic school from preschool through high school. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children and child protective service workers. In FY2016, UBHC treated 16,199 consumers, had 24,502 admissions, and touched the lives of 19,441 individual callers through peer support. In addition, UBHC is the primary mental health training resource for the New Jersey departments of Human Services, Children and Families, and Corrections, delivering 16,000 trainings each year.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Habilitation Counselor for the Partial Hospital Program at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Partial Hospital Habilitation Counselor position is to provide day-to-day direct care,and individual and group services to consumers, receiving mental health services, who attend the Partial Hospital Program, as directed by the Program Supervisor, in accordance with all regulatory requirements.

• Involves consumers/patients and/or family in jointly formulating treatment/Individualized Recovery Plans, reflecting measurable goals and objectives based on the MD/APN/Clinician assessment, in addition to treatment team recommendations, in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
• Manages termination issues and documentation in an effective and timely manner.
• Researches and develops curriculum and materials for skills development, psycho education, pre-vocational groups.
• Provides services and interventions that promote consumer/patient strengths.Develops the independence and sense of autonomy of all consumers/patients, as evidenced by Recovery Plan development, weekly notes and supervisory observation.
• Provides case management services to a caseload of consumers/patients, to include linkage to all benefits for which the consumer/patient is eligible, coordination of treatment and rehabilitation, liaison with community agencies and discharge planning.
• Provides crisis intervention in response to consumer/patient crisis situations, as monitored by supervisor.
• Completes all documentation within prescribed time frame, as monitored by documentation reports.
• Regularly attends and participates in in-service meetings to enhance counseling/rehabilitation skills,as documented by attendance at these activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field, plus one (1) year of experience in providing human services.
• Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure, as required by the State Board of Social Work.
• Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

•This position requires that the employee spends an extensive amount of time walking throughout the program, standing while facilitating groups throughout the day and bending and talking with consumers throughout the building.

•This position is located in a highly active work environment, with mental health consumer contact throughout the day and ongoing crisis intervention.

•Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
