Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV for the Bio-specimen Repository Services department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Among the key duties of this position, are the following:

• Performs research related clinical specimen collection and processing, under the direction of the Tissue Analytic Services Bio-Specimen Repository Laboratory Manager.
• Assists in protocol adaptation and administrative duties involved in following protocol requirements and regulations.
• Performs research related specimen processing, including immunohistochemistry techniques.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree in a relevant social science or related field (e.g. psychology, social work, public health or social sciences) or Bachelor’s Degree plus one (1) year of relevant Cancer research experience, is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must show proficiency in molecular biology laboratory methods.
• Understanding research protocols well enough to implement specimen processing needs and/or documentation of specimen collection and processing procedures, is necessary.
• Ability to follow and create laboratory SOPs in order to reach goals set by research protocols and learn laboratory specific database software, is essential.
• Effective oral and written communication skills required.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, talking or hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:
Lab environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to incautious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Special Conditions

• Mandatory “on-call” laboratory schedule must be adhered to, for complete collection of all protocol related bio-specimens.
