ORED provides services university wide to support the faculty’s research and strategically leads the university’s economic development activities. ORED’s functions range from supporting the identification of new research funding opportunities and submission of grants proposals to post-award financial management and research regulatory affairs. The office directs research commercialization, including patenting and licensing, and serves as a central point for industry access.

As part of ORED, Grant and Contract Accounting (GCA) performs central financial accounting and provides post-award administration support services for the university’s sponsored programs and other restricted funds, including the coordination of effort certification processes. Our services include:

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Assistant II to report to the Accounting Supervisor in the Office of Grant/Contract Accounting. This position is primarily responsible for payment processing, accounting functions and record keeping. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Processes sponsor payment activities, including receiving sponsor payments and electronic remittance advice, performing cash handling activities, processing sponsor payments and applying payments to sponsored projects as well as creating check requests.
• Resolves issues with accounts receivable balances, thoroughly investigating any account discrepancies by obtaining information from departments and sponsors.
• Prepares account receivable aging reports, monitors and analyzes accounts receivable balances, including creating reports that track payments and revenue received from customers.
• Monitors/Manages collections from sponsors; including contacting sponsors for outstanding payments in a professional manner and escalates to Accounting Manager when appropriate.
• Assists with Audits on an as needed basis
• Works closely with the Letter of Credit supervisor and the grant analysts/accountants to maintain a working relationship with sponsor contacts responding to requests of unpaid receivables and payment of expenditures and events in the Financial Management System.
• Completes various other task and duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires good communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail required.
• Computer literacy, in particular strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a non-profit or higher Ed. setting.
• Experience in Oracle Financial Management System desired.
