Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Data Control Clerk II, Per Diem, for the Department of Medicine at Rutgers -Robert Wood Johnson Medical School,to do the following:

• Facilitates and expedites patient flow in the Hemophilia Treatment Center by creating, transcribing and completing documentation in the patient medical record, with inclusion of appropriate ICD-9/ICD-10, CPT-4 codes.
• Facilitates data flow for physicians in the Hemophilia Treatment Center.
• Reviews nursing documentation for pertinent facts.
• Selects the appropriate template for purposes of documentation, using the electronic medical record.
• Communicates with the physician in order to obtain pertinent information regarding patient history, patient assessment, ordering of diagnostic tests, and documenting procedures, as they are performed.
• Compiles and records test results on the medical record.
• Edits patient discharge documentation to include after-care instructions, and prescription(s), if prescribed by the physician.
• Verifies the patient medical record for appropriate CPT and ICD-10/diagnosis coding.
• Monitors electronic medical record for lab results, X-ray’s, study readings, etc.
• Notifies physician immediately of pertinent abnormal test results.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma required.
• Requires two (2) years of clerical experience, one (1) year of which shall include experience with PC software packages.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pre-med, EMT, paramedic, nursing or having studied medical related courses, is preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT 4 coding preferred.
• Polished interpersonal and communication skills and excellent organizational skills preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Ability to work at computer station for extended periods, stand and walk for long periods, and the ability to work varied shifts, including evening and nights, on a rotating basis. Lift or exert up to 25 lbs.

• Work Environment: Potential exposure to blood and infectious material; radiation.
