Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Training and Consultation Specialist in the Department of Pediatrics at The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Provides advanced level consultation, technical assistance and training services consistent with identified project goals and objectives. The Training and Consultation Specialist is primarily responsible for delivery of training and consultation support to public New Jersey schools on the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

• Participates in the planning, coordination and provision of training and curriculum development.
• Coordinates and provides technical assistance to network schools through email, phone and on-site district support as prescribed by the PBSIS initiative’s protocol.
• Completes administrative duties (e.g., helping to maintain the website, maintaining technical assistance logs, etc.)
• Responds to requests for information.
• Participates in duties related to working within a team structure.
• Maintains school specific documentation.
• Delivers training on the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework.
• Participates in training to be a SWIS / PBIS Apps facilitator.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field plus two (2) years of experience implementing Positive Behavior Support in public schools; or a Doctorate Degree in Special Education or a related field plus one (1) year of experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (e.g., Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling), plus four (4) years of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework is required. Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and designing Function-Based Intervention Plans is required. Experience with public schools is required. Computer proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint and use of internet required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with urban and/or economically disadvantaged schools is preferred.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: Travel to training sites throughout the state (some limited out of state travel may be required) including the transpiration of training materials (bins with handouts, projector etc.) to site locations. Training and Consultation Specialists need to lift weights up to approximately 30 pounds in order to move training equipment and set up training sites.

Work Environment: New Brunswick based main office suite is shared with the six NJ PBSIS team members. Semi private work area that is generally pleasant in a clean, well-lighted quiet to moderately loud setting. Training and Consultation Specialists frequency work off site at school or training site locations.
