Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Nutritionist (Oncology) for the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Nutritionist I (Oncology) will provide nutritional care of ambulatory adult and pediatric oncology patients managing nutrition assessment, development and implementation of nutritional care plans and nutritional education. Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Performs nutritional assessment, formulates a specific nutrition diagnosis, plans and implements nutritional intervention(s) and tracks progress in attaining expected outcomes.
• Maintains a database of all patients requiring nutritional consultation and follow-up.
• Participates in Tumor Study Group meetings as appropriate.
• Participates as a committee member in the development and updating of policies and procedures.
• Develops oncology nutrition programs, protocols, and policies based on evidence-based guidelines.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree in Nutrition or Food Sciences,
• Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the Master’s Degree requirement.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in dietetics or nutrition, of which two (2) years shall have been in clinical oncology nutritional work experience required.
• Successful completion of an approved dietetic internship may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Registered Dietitian required.
• Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO) preferred.
• Prior research experience preferred.
• Prefer clinical work experience to have been in an academic healthcare facility.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands:
Walking, sitting, standing, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment:
Clinical setting includes exposure to blood excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and exposure to infectious and communicable diseases.
