Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Accounting Manager II for Rutgers Payroll Services. This position reports to the Associate Controller, Payroll Services. This position is responsible for the administration of the Commitment Accounting function for the University. This includes the following:

• Ensures the timely and accurate recording of all payroll/salary/fringe benefit related expenditures in the general ledger while ensuring compliance with prevailing GAAP and GASB standards/guidelines
• Assists units with processing prospective fund source changes for various salary/payroll/fringe benefit expenditures.
• Assists units with processing retroactive corrections to salary/payroll/fringe benefit expenditures, including initiations of requisite journal entries.
• Fosters and builds collaborative relationships with other units within the Controller’s Office, other central offices including Contract & Grant Administration, University Accounting, Office of Budget & Resource Studies and Enterprise Business Systems as well as various other College, School and administrative business offices across the University.
• Recommends, implements and ensures compliance with standardized Commitment Accounting business practices.
• Develops and distributes/publishes various Commitment Accounting related reference resources.
• Identifies and implement ways to streamline Commitment Accounting business processes,
• Collaborates with various financial units throughout the University to ensure that their payroll/salary/fringe benefit expenditures reporting needs are met.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
• Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function and including a mix of public accounting and industry backgrounds, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proven ability to work independently with good analytical and problem solving skills around accounting analytics and processes.
• Must exhibit strong knowledge of US GAAP/GASB.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience (1) working with an ERP system, (2) salary/payroll/fringe benefit expenditures (3) recommending and developing standardized/streamlined business practices, (4) demonstrated ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and (5) an advanced degree/CPA preferred.
