Posting Summary

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III for the Child Partial Hospital Program. The Mental Health Clinician III will provide direct clinical care to youth and their families within a new therapeutic milieu group room in the Unit, including comprehensive assessment and therapeutic intervention for the psychological and social needs of clients. The Mental Health Clinician III will develop treatment plans, conduct individual, group, and family therapy, and conduct outreach liaison activities to institutions and social agencies.

  • Consistently provides psychotherapy based on sound clinical judgment, with empathy and concern, as indicated by supervisory observation and patient feedback.
  • Performs case management functions to ensure overall coordination of patient services via system linkages, service procurement, referrals, patient advocacy, and community liaison; effectively collaborates with other staff members, referral sources, community resources, etc.
  • Administers high-level diagnostic evaluations or specialized psychological testing as clinically indicated.
  • Maintains and supervises the maintenance of clinical records in compliance with UBHC and JCAHO standards; formulates clinically appropriate treatment plans, reviews, progress notes, and discharge summaries within prescribed time frames.
  • Attends to professional development by remaining current in knowledge of trends and development in the field of mental health.
  • Participates in development, implementation, and evaluation of the Child & Adolescent Partial Care Program.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a mental health discipline.

Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.

Preferred Qualifications

License preferred for professionals from other disciplines. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Program and classroom setting is active and sometimes noisy. Varied settings in home. Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
