Posting Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Physical Therapist (Per Diem) to work at Central Reception & Assignment located in Trenton, New Jersey.

The Physical Therapist is responsible for planning and delivery of physical therapy programs as ordered by a Physician/APN/PA.

  • Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment of the assigned patients as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Develops a Plan of Care to promote optimum function and safety.
  • Plans for and provides skilled physical therapy treatment, reassessing the patient’s status on each visit and ensures quality of care.
  • Selects and performs therapeutic techniques that are appropriate for the patient’s problems and medical status, and that reflects integration of the therapist’s clinical knowledge and theory.
  • Participates in sensorimotor, educational, recreeational, and social activities designed to help inmates develop or regain physical functioning or adjust handicaps/disabilities.
  • Selects constructive activities suited to an individual’s physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to upgrade individual to maximum independence.
  • Designs and constructs special equipment for individual and suggests adaptation of individual’s living environment.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required. Licensed Physical Therapist in New Jersey.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Valid Driver’s License is required. Must possess own vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree preferred. Ideal candidate will possess knowledge in all areas of specialty in physical therapy, with high concentration in the area of orthopedics.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adult inmates, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior. Incumbent must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings. Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers. Risk of body fluid exposure. Must be able to maneuver around architectural barriers and obstructions found in a prison environment.

Special Conditions

Must be approved by the Department of Corrections(DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures of NJ Department of Corrections and the assigned facility(ies) including, but not limited to sign in logs or electronic time clocks, searches of person and property, etc. Violations of NJ Department of Corrections and/or being banned by the Department of Corrections to work at a NJ Department of Corrections’ facility are grounds for a disciplinary action and potential termination.
